Journey
Benjamin Dube stands as one of the most influential figures in South African music, a man whose career has seamlessly bridged the worlds of professional entertainment and spiritual ministry. Born on January 23, 1962, in Johannesburg, Dube was raised in a musical household where he mastered the guitar, drums, and piano at a young age. His early years were defined by his participation in the Dube Family Singers, but his path was forever altered in 1976 when his father, Reverend Benjamin Dube Senior, was tragically murdered. Rather than retreating, Dube channeled his grief into a lifelong commitment to gospel music and social healing.
His professional rise was meteoric, sparked by the 1986 release of the single "Holy Spirit," which became a nationwide sensation. In 2000, he made history by signing with Harmony Records in New York, recording the hit album “I Feel Like Going On.” Dube is perhaps best known for his "Praise Explosion" concerts and the “In His Presence live,” recording series, which produced multi-platinum hits like "Lomusa Ongaka" and "He Keeps on Doing." These projects introduced a sophisticated, urban sound to African gospel, garnering him numerous South African Music Awards (SAMA).
As the Bishop and CEO of High Praise Centre, Dube’s influence extends far beyond the recording studio. He is a dedicated mentor who founded Dube Connection Enterprise to support emerging talent, helping launch the careers of several major South African stars. Having shared stages with international icons such as Kirk Franklin and Andraé Crouch, Dube continues to lead the industry with projects like Legendary in His Presence. His journey is a testament to the power of faith, serving as a beacon of hope for millions across the African continent and the world.
